Tips For Finding A Wedding Photographer
There are a lot of people who claim to be wedding photographers, but just because someone says they are a wedding photographer does not mean that they are what they say. Because wedding photography is a trendy, booming industry it is easy to get fooled by someone who is just trying to make a buck. There is good news! We have come up with a few tips to help you weed out the riff raff and find a photographer that will perfectly capture your big day!
Tip #1 If It Seems Too Good To Be True, Then It Is
This is actually a good tip to live by for all things, but especially when it comes to wedding photographers. Wedding photography is not going to be cheap. If you find a photographer that is way under quoting everyone else, then chances are they are trying to pull something over on you. Either your photographs will come out looking awful or you may not even see the photographs once the photographer has been paid. This brings us to the second tip.
Tip#2 Do Your Research
Before you even start reaching out to photographers you want to do some research. Ask friends and family who have gotten married questions about their photographers. Try and get a good idea of what the industry standard is as far as contracts, prices, and turn around. Going in with a set of expectations will make sure that you find a photographer that will meet your needs.
Tip #3 Ask A Lot Of Questions
Great wedding photographers will be expecting you to ask questions. They know that this day is important to you and that you will want to make sure you have all the information before trusting them with your wedding. Be sure to ask about prices, what will happen after the wedding, and what your rights are in regards to the images. You will also want to ask about their process and what they try to capture for each of their clients. Ask what kind of shots and poses they recommend, and whether they will work to make sure all of the photographs you want taken are shot. If you want an underwater picture in your dress, you better find out if your photographer is willing to get wet with you. Don’t hesitate. If you have a question (no matter how crazy you think it is) ask!
Tip #4 Know What You Want
Don’t walk into a meeting with a photographer and say that you just want pictures of your wedding. Have an idea of what kinds of pictures you want taken, and what mood you want to portray through the photography. If you have a theme for your wedding be sure to discuss this and ask how the photographer plans to capture and enhance the theme in your photographs. You don’t want to end up with a photographer whose style is not compatible with the overall feel of your wedding. You also don’t want a photographer that you are not compatible with so it is a good idea to have in depth conversations with each photographer before choosing one.
Tip #5 Review Their Work
You can check out most wedding photographers’ work on their website before you even meet them, but you definitely want to check it out in person as well. Ask to see a portfolio or an entire wedding album. You want to see the type of work that they have done and make sure their work meets your standards, and is what you want.
