Marriage Proposals: Hollywood Edition
Exciting things are happening here at the Tipsy Verse. Our very own Krista recently got engaged! We are so excited for her, and can’t wait to see her and her awesome fiance walk down the aisle together. That got us thinking, of course, about our favorite TV and movie marriage proposals. Now, there are a lot of these kinds of lists out there so we wanted to mix things up a bit. These are in no particular order. Enjoy!
1. Sweet Home Alabama
No, not that proposal. Any well-to-do gent can rent out Tiffany’s for an evening and make a big to-do with flashy diamonds. What we connected with though, was the down-to-earth way in which Melanie and Jake proposed to each other at different times in their lives.
I only recently started watching Bones so no spoilers in case this one doesn’t work out, okay? Angie and Hodgins are perfection in my not so humble opinion. And, hey. When you’re a nerd what better way is there to not propose than with bioluminescent shrimp? And to get a “yes” to your not proposal? Even better.
3. Leap Year
This movie wasn’t a blockbuster, but it is great nonetheless. Okay, maybe I’m a little biased because I L-O-V-E Matthew Goode. This scene made me melt into a pile of goo and tears. It is seriously one of the sweetest things on the planet.
4. Boy Meets World
Let’s face it, we all rooted for Corey and Topanga, even though hindsight tells us they were likely way too young to be thinking about marriage on graduation day…from high school. Still, you can’t deny this is a pretty adorable proposal.
5. Pride and Prejudice
What’s a proposal list without this one, huh? Not so fast. We’re not talking about Elizabeth and Darcy (although that one is pretty good). We’re of the opinion that Charles Bingley doesn’t get enough credit for his incredibly romantic proposal to Jane Bennett. Maybe it’s because you don’t get to hear the whole thing, but we’re betting it was awesome.
Bingley: First, I must tell you I’ve been the most unmitigated and comprehensive ass…
Jane: Yes. A thousand times, yes.
6. Grey’s Anatomy
There is a sad lack of same sex proposals going on in both TV and movies (Modern Family was the only other one of note we could find). Torres’ and Arizona’s relationship was fraught with ups and downs, but we all know they were soul mates.
7. Notting Hill
I’m of the opinion that if you don’t like Notting Hill, we can’t be friends. At least not good ones. This is one of the most romantic movies ever. And this proposal scene? Swoonworthy.
8. The Walking Dead
It’s hard to be romantic when you’re trying to survive the Zombie Apocalypse. Somehow, though, Glenn managed it when he proposed to Maggie. Sure, he swiped the (gorgeous) ring from a dead zombie, but it’s not like she was using it. Even though I don’t watch The Walking Dead anymore, I still secretly root for Maggie and Glenn.
9. The Princess Diaries 2
Okay, Andrew Jacoby’s (Callum Blue) film canister proposal was pretty dreamy, but you know what you really swoon over in this movie is when Clarisse and Joe finally stop beating around the bush, and admit they love each other.
10. White Collar
Don’t judge. I know this was a fake proposal. But it was so, so good, in only the way Neal Caffrey could make it good. You know you wish Sara and Neal had been able to run off into the sunset together. It couldn’t have just been me. Right?
