Movie Review: Beauty and the Beast
The time has finally come! The live-action version of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast has arrived, and we are so excited to share our review with you. Of course, no one will be surprised that we came into this movie heavily biased for numerous reasons.
If, for some reason, you are not familiar with Disney’s 1991 animated feature…I really don’t know what to do with you! You must watch it immediately! Seriously, go watch it, I’ll wait…
Based on an old French fairy tale, Beauty and the Beast is the story of Belle, a bookworm who baffles the residents of her quaint town. Her father Maurice dotes on her, and the town bad boy – Gaston – wants to marry her. Belle has other plans, however.
When Maurice goes missing on the way to a trade fair, Belle sets out to rescue her father. She finds him in a strange castle inhabited by enchanted furniture and a monstrous beast. The audience learns that the beast and his household have been cursed by an Enchantress, and he must love and be loved in return in order to break the spell.
Belle trades her freedom to save her father, and quickly turns life in the cursed castle upside down. Will it be enough, though? Is Belle, the headstrong daughter of an artist, the one who will soften the beast’s heart?
Reason to See:
This updated version of the classic Disney film might just be better than the original. With new songs and a more inclusive cast, what’s not to love?
Reason to Skip:
If you aren’t into musicals, Disney, or basically flawless casting choices, you might want to skip this one.
Is Beauty and the Beast Worth Spending The Price of a Ticket?
YES. In fact, I’ll be spending plenty of my own hard-earned dollars seeing this gem in theaters as many times as possible.
Grab a dish of grey stuff (or popcorn, I guess) and get ready to fall in love all over again with Belle, the beast, and all your favorite characters (plus some new ones).
